Bomarsund Visitor Centre

The new visitor centre opened in June 2022, when Åland celebrated 100 years of autonomy. On Autonomy Day, 9 June, the centre was shown to the King and Queen of Sweden and the President of Finland and his spouse. Nearly 40,000 people visited the museum in its first year.

The fortress’s story is told here through both traditional and digital displays. The centre is about 200 metres from the campsite reception and Furulundsgården Restaurant.

Djävulsberget

The hill rises 62 metres above sea level and was intended to become an outpost of Bomarsund Fortress. Construction was never completed, so there is no structure left to see. The views still make it a lovely place to visit.

Swimming, cycling & rowing

Hire a bicycle or rowing boat at the campsite and explore the surroundings at your own pace. Bomarsund’s swimming beach is just across the road.
